I did want to learn the guitar, and after dabbling with piano and clarinet ( I had dreamed of being a great sax player) I found something that resonated with me when I picked up the guitar. I grew up trading Kiss cards at primary school and wow did I want a guitar like Ace Frehley’s (and his boots !) And then by the time I started lessons sweet child of mine was THE song, 1 guy at school could play that song and he was worshipped as a god.

Why do you teach guitar?

Music is a powerful experience for the listener and the musician, so too with teaching for the student and the teacher. It’s a joy to be able to give the gift of music to a student and help them to unleash their inherent creativity. I see my role as more than just that of a teacher, a big part of what I do is to train and mentor the student into becoming the musician they strive to be.

Why do you use the G4 GUITAR METHOD?

I was looking for a methodical, systematic and structured approach to teaching. I had been patching together various methodologies and I wanted to move away from a haphazard approach. G4 is a proven system with clear goals geared towards the AMEB CPM grades. It has checks and balances to keep everyone on track and regular rewards to help keep students motivated and a strong focus on practice schedules. I also see a lot of benefit in being part of a recognised network of teachers and the support that provides, it’s a tough gig teaching as a solo operation, with G4 you’re part of a team, all pulling in the same direction.

Do you have any favourites?

Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, Jeff Beck, Santana, Steely Dan.
Guitars: Epiphone 335, Taylor acoustics

Why do you use the G4 GUITAR METHOD?
I use the G4 GUITAR METHOD because it gives me the best tools to teach my students so I get the best out of them and they get the best out of me.

4. Do you have any favourites?
Favourite musicians are Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Kai Hansen, Steve Vai & Dave Mustane. Why did you decide to learn guitar?
I can remember when I was very young, maybe 5 or 6, my dad and I had to drive past a music shop
to pick my mum up from work. I don`t know why but every time we drove past the shop I couldn`t take my eyes off the guitars. A few years later I started taking guitar lessons and then after hearing the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, I
was hooked. I haven`t put the guitar down since.

2. Why do you teach guitar?
I love playing the guitar! My greatest satisfaction comes from seeing a student`s face when they finally master a piece of
music they`ve been working on. If I can instill some of my passion into the student I feel my job is done..

3. Why do you use the G4 GUITAR METHOD?
For me, the G4 Guitar Method ticks all the boxes. As a teacher I find the structured course an essential teaching tool. For the student it gives them a goal – to reach the next level, and for the parent it gives them a way of tracking their child`s progress.

4. Do you have any favourites?
I like all sorts of music. I feel as a musician you have to have an open mind to different styles of
music. My favourite guitarist is Eddie Van Halen. What he has done on the guitar is mind-blowing!
I also listen to Steve Vai, Nuno Bettencourt, Tommy Emmanuel, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix,
Steve Lukather and countless others.
Inspiration

1. Why did you decide to learn guitar?
Guitar intrigued me because of the versatility, portability and sounds you could create. Two things stand out as the biggest inspiration for deciding to play guitar. My best friend in high school started to play guitar and we thought it would be cool to be able to play music together. Secondly, my Science teacher saw our potential and gave us free lessons at lunch time. He was the former bass player for Rat Cat and I didn't know it at the time.

2. Why do you teach guitar?
I teach guitar because it combines a lot of things I enjoy the most in life. Teaching and music being the biggest reasons. And it gives me an excuse to play guitar all day and night.

3. Why do you use the G4 GUITAR METHOD?
The biggest hurdle I faced when starting out as a teacher was that I knew how to play all this stuff, but how do I actually teach someone else to. The G4 Guitar Method makes my life easy because I just want to teach people to play guitar. I don't want to sit down for years and years developing a teaching method through trial and error. The hard work was done for me, so it was a no-brainer. The bonus from joining was being part of the most recognised guitar tuition organisation in Australia and having almost unlimited exposure on google. Something that would have cost me a small fortune. And as a start up business of teaching guitar, every dollar counts.

4. Do you have any favourites?
My musical tastes are quite vast, and eclectic. My favourite musicians are Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Tony Kakko, Lady Gaga, Steve Howe, Deen Castronovo, Suze DeMarchi, Ryan Spendlove, Katie Noonan.

My favourite songs are Mary-Lou by Sonata Arctica, The Howling by Within Temptation. There are lots more.

My favourite Youtube videos are mostly from Candy Rat Records such as Ewan Dobson, Antoine Dufour, and Craig D'Andrea.

My Favourite websites are Youtube, Songsterr and Soundcloud
Inspiration

1. Why did you decide to learn guitar?
For me it wasn't really a decision. My dad brought a guitar home when I was about 7, and I had a few lessons. For some reason as I got older, it was something that I kept coming back to. I started writing my own songs (as horrible as they were) from a very young age. It was the one thing I could count on to get me through rough times. It was the one thing I could trust. Music is a very powerful thing, especially when you can control it.

2. Why do you teach guitar?
I teach guitar because I know there's people out there like me. They want to be inspired, they want to be able to control the power of music. Also, there's many mistakes I made, and if I can help people avoid them, then I'm doing my job.

3. Why do you use the G4 GUITAR METHOD?
The G4 GUITAR METHOD is great for those first couple of years of guitar where you really need a solid structure to follow. It helps a teacher maintain work for the beginners and keep everything organised. This allows you to spend more time on creating work for advanced players, which need a individual plan. When I say beginner, I think you're a beginner for at least a couple of years. There's times I still feel like one.

4. Do you have any favourites?
Bright Eyes, The Tallest Man on Earth, Brand New, Joe Purdy, Johnathan Rice, Counting Crows

Guitar: The guitar I bought for $200 in Changchun, China (Jilin Province). Purely because it was a bargain, and has beautiful action.
Why did you decide to learn guitar?
I decided to learn guitar when i saw a shinny red Stratocaster electric guitar on the TV. I straight away fell in love with that guitar.

2. Why do you teach guitar?
I have been playing with many different musicians through out the years and I have learnt a lot from playing with them. I like the feeling when I can use my knowledge and help people achieve their target or get through the things they're stuck with.

3. Why do you use the G4 GUITAR METHOD?
I use the G4 GUITAR METHOD simply because it works! Its very well structured, from learning the 7 basic skills students are able to play the song at the end of the day.

4. Do you have any favourites?
I listen to variety of music styles including Slash( Guns and roses) Stevie Ray Vaughn, George Benson and Jimi Hendrix.
Why did you decide to learn guitar?
One of my earliest memories as a child is dancing around my neighbours porch and screaming the words to "I was made for loving you" by Kiss. I had no idea what they were singing about at the time. I was only 4 years old but I was drawn to the power of what music could do. It had this magnetic effect on me and till this day I still get the same feeling when I hear a great song. Its the ultimate escape. It can take you to places you didn't think where possible. It was this mystery that eventually led me to playing the guitar 10 years later. .

2. Why do you teach guitar?
I teach guitar because I love music and I want to pass on this passion to others. I want others to have the same opportunity to experience the joy I have experienced from playing the guitar. I love teaching because there is nothing better than watching someone start out as a complete beginner with no skills what so ever and to then watch them develop over time into a competent musician. If anything its just seeing the look on their face when they realise that they DO have the ability to accomplish their goals on the guitar.

3. Why do you use the G4 GUITAR METHOD?
The G4GM gives me the ideal platform to facilitate beginners and intermediate guitarists through the early stages of learning the guitar. I use the G4GM to develop my students skills. Its the ideal road map which guarantees my students success. If the students stick to the G4GM they are guaranteed to reach their goals on the guitar. I don't think any other method guarantees this.

4. Do you have any favourites?
Generally my musical tastes vary and I am always looking for new music. Growing up I was influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Bon Jovi, Guns n Roses, Prince and The Black Crowes

In the more recent years I have been influenced by:

Radiohead, The Mars Volta, The Dave Matthews Band, John Scofield, Pat Metheny and Brian Blade amongst others

AMEB Students
The following students have completed an AMEB exam.

Joe Young 2011

Why did you decide to learn guitar?
I became inspired to play the moment I heard the roar of the electric guitar for the first time as a child. The sheer power of the instrument was overwhelming. The endless options for articulation and expression were fascinating. I remember watching John Petrucci's "Rock Discipline" DVD and practicing for hours trying to emulate his speed and precision. I enjoyed playing so much that I went to college and studied music composition, along with classical and jazz guitar. After graduating, I began to teach, play in bands and score indie films. From the bludgeoning attack of a good power chord progression, to the intimate atmosphere of harp harmonics, I can't think of a more enjoyable or expressive instrument to play. The guitar is truly unique and exceptionally diverse, worthy of a lifetime of study!

2. Why do you teach guitar?
I teach the guitar for 3 reasons. First, it's an educational experience. Not only for the student but for the teacher as well. I've been exposed to a tremendous amount of new music from my students. A good student challenges me and pushes the evolution of my playing and knowledge to the next level. Secondly, it's a terrific way to earn a living while having fun! Playing music is way better than a real job. Finally, I really enjoy developing a student's skills and watching them become a musician. Once they reach that level, we can converse using the language of music, which is a very rewarding experience.

3. Why do you use the G4 GUITAR METHOD?
Rarely do we accomplish anything of value in life by accident. A structured and intentional approach is necessary to attain any valuable skill. The G4 GUITAR METHOD provides a structure that, if applied correctly, will yield real results. Implementing the seven skills, within an accountable environment, will put you on the fast track to achieving your guitar goals. Despite the wealth of information available to us through technology, it can be very frustrating and difficult to improve without proper guidance and instruction. The G4 GUITAR METHOD offers a clear cut path to guitar greatness!

4. Do you have any favourites?
I love film music, jazz, 20th century, classical, classic rock, pop, progressive rock, all types of metal and video game music. You can see and hear examples of my playing below. Thanks and I look forward to rocking with you!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfQ_525h16Q
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sucYhKWI7hQ
http://www.myspace.com/aeirydaes

What instruments do you teach?
I teach a range of instruments including piano, saxophone, clarinet and voice. Also run Music and Movement classes for 2-5 year olds.

2. Why do you teach?
Love passing on my knowledge of music. Now run Take Note School of Music in North Strathfield where our guitar teaches use the G4 Guitar Method

3. Why do you use the G4 GUITAR METHOD?
I have worked with teachers using the G4Guitar Method for over 5 years now and love the structure it provides the students. They have clear goals with rewards and a realistic plan which has their age, ability and goals in mind. The Practice Log helps the teacher, student and parents to monitor the progress of the student and parents can help even when they have no prior knowledge because the method is set out so clearly.

4. Why did you decide to learn guitar?
I was nine years old when a schoolmate got me interested in taking piano lessons. Since my parents had
recently started their own construction company, there was little cash and no time for them to squire us to
extra-curricular activities, so the answer was a very final NO.

On Christmas Day, 1964 a neighborhood boy came over to our house to show off his brand new “Beatles
Stuff”. Dressed in a Beatles Wig, Beatles Boots, carrying and Beatles guitar, David Crawford played “She Loves
You” for my family. My mom was delighted at David’s “in character” performance. The three of us kids
danced around her begging to be allowed to take guitar lessons. My mom was torn, because only a few
months before, my dad had thrown his slippers at the TV when he saw “those long-haired creeps singing
ya, ya, ya” on the Ed Sullivan Show.

I still do not know how my mom managed it, but Dad arrived home one day bearing a nylon-stringed pawn-
shop guitar. We shared that one guitar, passing it along to next kid at the end of our back-to-back lessons.
Then, a second brand new guitar arrived. We cherished our guitar lessons, and our practice time easily fit
into the spaces between homework, household chores, and helping with the family business..

2. Why do you teach guitar?
It would seem that the guitar chose me after I was life-time of other experience. I can say without any
reservation that this is what I was born to do.

Guitar teaching was my very first career, and has become my final one. I paid part of my way through my
university music degree with guitar teaching and would have stuck with it had it not been for the poor
conditions I taught under. The private music stores put little effort into keeping the teaching spaces bright,
and clean. As a young eager-for-life woman, I did not last long fighting with dust, shipping boxes and
spiders in windowless teaching spaces. I retrained and spent the next twenty-five years in the other area
of life that I still love, home design. After the years of late nights took their toll on my health, I returned to
my guitar as a temporary self-care time until I figured out the next chapter of my life. Within two years,
I rediscovered my playing skill and was invited to teach alongside my new teacher, Ruth Lockwood. That
was eight years ago, and I have since been fully employed as a guitar teacher. The saying goes that you
don’t appreciate your blessings until they are lost. I feel so fortunate to be reunited with my first love,
my guitar. I cannot adequately describe in words the personal joy I feel in being in relationship with so
many wonderful students. We begin as teacher and student and grow into life-long friends. I owe a debt
of gratitude to a few visionaries who helped me back to this most honorable profession. Ruth took my
rusty guitar skills and honed them into something exquisitely beautiful. David Hart has been more than
a business mentor, and I owe most my studio’s continued success to his constant encouragement and
informative G4 Teachers tools. I plan to teach until the Lord says I am done, and continue to encourage my
students to try teaching some of their own students.

3. Why do you use the G4 GUITAR METHOD?
It can be lonely running one’s own business as a solo sole proprietor. I chose David Hart’s G4 System
because I am instantly connected to other guitar teachers, regardless of their geographic location, and the
most up-to-date teaching techniques. No other guitar society or organization offered me this high level of
response and interaction.

4. Do you have any favourites?

My favourite artists:

Rage Against the Machine, Metallica, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Lenny Kravitz, Jimmy Page, Les Paul, Chet
Atkins, Gordon Lightfoot, Santana, Michael Jackson, Orianthi, Taylor Swift, Liona Boyd, Michael Strutt,
Julian Bream, Andres Segovia, Pavlo, James Keelaghan and Lowry Olafson.

My favourite guitars:

Bayou spruce-top Flamenco, Washburn Electric, Epiphone Les Paul, Peavey Bass, Martin back-packer, Gold-
Tone lap guitar.
